India’s Protest Against Khalistani Extremists’ Attempt to Attack S. Jaishankar in London
A shocking incident has emerged from London, where India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, faced an attempt of aggression by Khalistani extremists. In addition to this, these extremists also tried to desecrate the Indian flag right in front of him. The footage of the incident has gone viral, raising serious concerns about the security of foreign ministers visiting the UK.
Security Breach in a High-Security Zone
The attack happened in a VIP zone in central London, an area known for its high-security measures. Despite this, the Khalistani protesters were able to approach Dr. Jaishankar’s car without much resistance. They crossed barricades, came dangerously close to his vehicle, and one of them even attempted to damage the Indian flag. The UK police intervened only when the situation had escalated to an unacceptable level.
This raises a critical question: If such an incident had happened with a US Secretary of State, would the UK authorities have reacted similarly? The lax security measures indicate a concerning negligence towards the safety of visiting foreign ministers, particularly from India.
Repeated Khalistani Attacks on Indian Diplomats
This is not the first time that Indian diplomats have faced such hostility in the UK. In 2023, the Indian High Commission in London was attacked by Khalistani extremists, who attempted to remove the Indian flag from the premises. Despite India’s protests, UK authorities have failed to curb such actions effectively.
The Indian government has officially condemned this security breach, terming it a “misuse of democratic freedoms by extremist elements.” The Ministry of External Affairs has urged the UK government to fulfill its diplomatic obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which mandates the protection of foreign diplomats and dignitaries.
UK’s Double Standards on Security
The UK’s approach to security for foreign diplomats appears inconsistent. In the past, the UK government strongly opposed the construction of a public toilet near its High Commissioner’s residence in Delhi, citing security concerns. Yet, it has failed to ensure even basic security for India’s foreign minister.
Such actions raise questions about whether the UK genuinely respects India’s status as a rising global power. Given the ongoing shift in international relations, especially with Donald Trump challenging UK policies, this is a golden opportunity for India to exert diplomatic pressure on the UK to take stronger action against extremist groups operating on its soil.
What Should India Do Next?
This incident demands a firm response from the Indian government. Should India take stronger diplomatic measures against the UK? Should stricter actions be taken against Khalistani sympathizers abroad? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
